Today, I want to post something that basically has to do with my opinion and strictly my own personal POV. It has to do with what I keep seeing posted on the internet and has to do with which firearm brand is the best for personal defense. They all seem to compare their latest and greatest polymer frame, striker fire system to the one that I strongly believe to be benchmark of this modern platform, The GLOCK PISTOL! Today, all of the top gun manufacturers all have their version of the Glock polymer frame, striker fire platform.
To be fair, it is not so much the manufacturers, yes sometimes it is, but the home-grown computer commandos that seem to be promoting this agenda. I have worked in a few gun shops and have sold a lot of firearms in my lifetime. I can remember people coming in, and asking to see a particular make and model, in most cases choosing something that was probably not the best choice for them. I can say this in complete confidence because as an experienced shooter, I have personally been there. There are a few things that have to be correct if you intend to shoot the gun you select to its full potential. I will definitely cover that in another post.
Whenever I detected that I was dealing with a new inexperienced person, I would always spend a little time and try to find out what led them to their choice. A lot of times I would get the same response, "Well it's like a Glock". I always found that puzzling! Why would you buy something because it is like something else? My response was always well if you like it because it's like a Glock, then why not buy the Glock instead of a copy! It must be a proven reliable system that makes most manufacturers feel that they need to have their version of it. There must be a lot of positive engineering in it if almost everyone else is copying it.
OK, so now without making this post too long, let's sum it up. Those of you who know me know that I am a big fan of the Glock pistol. That is apparent by the fact that everything I train with and shoot is a Glock. I will admit that I have built a few with some after-market slides and parts, but they are still pretty much Glock pistols. My affection for the Glock pistol has a lot to do with the fact that it is what I carried on duty and what I would have to use to protect my life, my partner's life and the public. I spent a lot of time training with the Glock Platform and sent a lot of rounds down range and never had any doubt that it would be a reliable piece of equipment if the time came that it had to be deployed!
I know that price has to do a lot with what an individual will purchase so if you like the Glock why not buy the Glock. From my experiences, the Glock platform is a pretty reasonable priced and competitively priced firearm probably at the lower end for that type of pistol. Now, if there are other factors i.e.: external safeties that would be another reason to choose something else. Another very important aspect would be how it fits your hand. That is a key factor to how you shoot it and how it prints on target!
Okay, that's it for right now. More to come in another post!
